The art of blending is to create a harmonious balance of flavours, acidity and body. There are no ground rules as to what constitutes a perfect blend, but rather it is trying to find the most suitable roast and combination of beans that will best complement each other. Foremost in determining a blend, the roaster must first identify the type of flavour they wish to create. This could be a fruity blend, a morning ‘pick-me-up’ blend, an after dinner blend, or deep dark rich flavoured blend. The options are endless and every roaster will be different. The beans can be mixed before roasting or after roasting, depending on the technique of each roaster. The character of each blend will be determined by the degree of roast as well as the proportion of Arabica and Robusta beans used. |
